The African Center for Mushroom Research and Technology Innovations (ACMRTI) is the brain child of Prof. John A. Okhuoya and Prof Omon S. Isikhuemhen to fill the vacuum that exist in Nigeria and West Africa at large on research and technology for exploiting edible and medicinal mushrooms for food and health benefits, as well as their applications in environmental problems. It is a center that is focused on research, training, outreach and services for turning waste to food and wealth in our local environment.
ACMRTI is affiliated with the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (PBB), from where most of the faculty of the center are drawn.
This center is equipped to conduct research on Edible and medicinal mushrooms and develop low-cost and sustainable technology for their cultivation and application in solving environmental problems.
ACMRTI is also equipped to train students (MSc and PhD), farmers and the general public on all aspects of mushroom exploitation for food, natural medicine and organic matter recycling to bio-products of commerce
The center is affiliated with many local and international research laboratories and centers of excellence on edible and medicinal mushroom research and technology development all over the world.
We welcome collaboration and cooperation of any kind that will make ACMRTI the preeminent center for training mushroom scientists and reservoir of knowledge, culture bank and resources on Africa mushrooms of economic importance.
